Warm Smiles in Kiribun: Marines Habema's Social Communication Fosters Unity

YAHUKIMO - The Task Force Infantry Battalion 6 Marines, a key unit under the Indonesian Armed Forces Operational Command HABEMA, continues to strengthen its ties with local communities while conducting border security operations in Papua Pegunungan Province. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the Marines Task Force, stationed at Logpon Post and led by First Lieutenant Nico, engaged in a heartfelt Social Communication (Komsos) activity with residents of Kiribun Village in Dekai District. This initiative aligns with the mission to foster trust, cooperation, and mutual understanding between the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the community, supporting the Indonesian government’s efforts to accelerate development in Papua.

As part of their patrol duties, the Marines took time to connect with Kiribun’s residents, creating an atmosphere of harmony and trust. Residents shared updates about their village, expressing relief that the security situation remained safe and peaceful. The soldiers, in turn, actively listened, offering words of encouragement and solidarity.

One resident, Soka Tabuni, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you, Commander Marines. God bless.” His words captured the heartfelt appreciation of the community for the Marines’ presence and efforts.

The Commander of the Marines Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Rismanto Manurung, emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the community as an integral part of their mission. “Attention to the community’s needs and inclusive communication are pivotal for ensuring peace and supporting Papua’s development, ” he noted.

The HABEMA Commanding General, Major General Lucky Avianto, praised the Marines’ efforts, stating, “This initiative reflects the commitment of TNI to fostering inclusive social engagement in Papua. Such activities not only strengthen community relations but also pave the way for long-term progress and development in the region.”

This acknowledgment underscores the vital role of programs like Komsos in bridging gaps and creating a foundation for sustainable development.

The Marines’ initiative in Kiribun Village is more than a security operation; it’s a demonstration of their commitment to uplifting local communities. By fostering trust and mutual respect, the Marines ensure that their presence in Papua contributes to a brighter and more united future.
